The Survivalists is a survival crafting game with an interesting twist. You can employ an army of monkeys to do most of the work for you. The game’s unique feature is the ability to employ monkeys that will mimic whatever action you show them. By taking advantage of this mechanic, you can have your monkeys harvest resources, smelt, and even craft items.

By using the teach option, you can have your monkeys mimic any action you take like harvesting resources or crafting. The possibilities are endless.

The monkeys can’t do everything though, and that’s where you come in. By managing your team well, it significantly cuts down the grind of having to collect resources and instead you can focus on exploration and crafting.

Each island has random encounters and areas. For example, you may run into the vendor who will sell you items.

Speaking of exploration, there are many things you can do on your starting island. Some will have ruins, encounters with npcs, goblin villages, and totems you can collect chests from by giving them the required items. Once in a while, goblins will raid your base and destroy your buildings if you don’t protect them. Building walls and traps are vital to keeping your structures intact. You can also build a raft and sail away to explore other islands. The other islands will contain metals necessary for advanced crafting.

The monkey mechanic is pretty unique and fun. I trained all my monkeys for combat and armed them with bows. Truly a fearsome sight to behold.

Overall, The Survivalists is a solid survival crafting game. The monkey mechanic is an unique an interesting twist on the genre. It reduces the amount of grind but manages to keep the spirit of the survival crafting genre. This creates more freedom and opportunities to explore.
