Bassmaster Fishing 2022 is an ok fishing game. It has enough variety to provide some level of mechanical depth to the fishing.
The game has many modes but most play out the same. You travel out into the water on your boat. The detector on the upper right hand corner of the screen informs you of the general amount and size of the fish in the area. Once you pick a spot, you can start fishing.
There are two types of casting. One is very straight forward and you simply determine the strength of the throw whereas the other mode lets you have a much finer degree of control. Once you cast your line, you can reel it in in a smooth or stop and go motion depending on the lure and the surrounding fish. Once a fish bites, you strike by pulling back on the rod with the mouse. It was a pretty embarrassing moment, but it took me a while to figure this out since my mouse sensitivity was really low.
From here, you can adjust the reel speed and line tension to keep the line taught and reel the fish in. You can risk catching it quicker by using the net.
The fishing in the game felt pretty ok to me. Take this with a grain of salt as I haven’t played a lot of dedicated fishing sims. I have played a lot of games with fishing in it and the fishing in this game seems serviceable. The game did feel a little low on the production side with the maps feeling a bit empty and lifeless, and the general lack of a feeling of overall progression in the game.
Overall, Bassmaster Fishing 2022 is a serviceable fishing game. I had an ok time with it but nothing in it really grabbed my attention or stood out.
