Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning is a remaster of the original game released back in 2012. It definitely feels dated, but in a very nostalgic way.

This game has so much lore, it has literal Lorestones that play back stories.

Nostalgia aside, Kingdoms of Amalur still holds up to this day. The game has incredible world building and lore. RPG fans can truly immerse themselves in the land of Amalur. There is an incredible amount of conversations, texts, and environment that build the world and make it feel alive and real.

The combat is standard action RPG fare. It’s competent and enjoyable.

The game play is solid as well. It handles mostly as a standard action RPG such as Fable or Skyrim. There are plenty of skill trees to sink points into as well. The game design is fantastic as it gives players a lot of freedom to choose between different play styles without being locked into one. Kingdoms of Amalur also does a fantastic job of doling out loot and lore at a rate that keeps players hooked and incentivizes them to search every nook and cranny.

I don’t get tired of watching my character’s comical face in the cut scenes.

Overall, Re-Reckoning is an unexpected blast from the past but a pleasant one. By far, the aspect of the game that stands out to me the most is the meticulous world building and how much craft and production went into it. The game still has a certain charm to it to this day and it certainly is a shame that the MMO never came into existence.
