Strongholds: Warlords is a real time strategy game focusing on ancient warfare. It brings to mind classics like Age of Empires (Ayoyoyo Wololo). The demo is fairly short and easy so it won’t give an accurate impression on the actual difficulty of real time strategy games such as this. The demo’s main purpose is to give you a glimpse into the mechanics available in this game.
The demo starts you off in an already built village. Access to resources is fairly easy so you can focus on the warring part of being a warlord. You have access to melee, ranged, cavalry, and siege units. They all have different movement speeds so you have to do a little bit of micromanaging so the fast units don’t go off charging across the battlefield on their own, getting killed immediately.
Building structures such as towers, walls, and gates are key for defense as ranged units on towers have an incredible advantage. In addition to traditional warfare, you are able to defeat npc warlords and recruit them to your side. By doing so, they will be able to help you in many ways, including sending extra resources, sending units to attack enemy bases, etc.
Strongholds: Warlords is looking promising for those looking for a solid real time strategy war game.
