Core Clusters are points earned from unspent research points and are used to boost the speed of production for modules.
Every 10 unspent purple research points will create one core cluster and every 5 unspent blue research points will create one core cluster.
For example, if I had 100 purple research points available, I would have 10 core clusters. I currently have 1,979 unspent purple research points so this gives me 197 core clusters. If I had 100 blue research points available, I would have 20 core clusters. I currently have 2,666 unspent blue research points so this gives me 533 core clusters. The total from both should be 730 core clusters.
As for how much of a bonus you get, for Mining Drills and Smelters, every core cluster boosts production speeds by 0.25%. This may seem like a low number but it does add up quickly.
With a boost of 0.25% per core cluster, you will need 400 core clusters to double the speed of Mining Drills and Smelters. This translates into 4,000 purple research points or 2,000 blue research points or a mix of both. Considering one full research tree assembled from a core composer holds 1,000 cores, this is an attainable goal.
Threshers, Cranks, and Assemblers get a boost of 0.05% per core cluster. This is significantly lower than the Mining Drills and Smelters. At a rate of 0.05% per core cluster, you will need 2,000 core clusters, which translates into 20,000 purple research points or 10,000 blue research points or a mix of both.
Some things to keep in mind, 10,000 extra blue cores does take up a lot of space so it might not be worth making things faster for a smaller base build when there’s so much space taken up by the cores. I’ll leave it up to you guys to decide whether or not you want to pursue this route.
Also, the tool tip seems to point towards core clusters only being formed by cores placed by the composer. It may be prudent to use the core composer as this seems to be the intent of the devs.
Hope this helped. If you need more help or have your own tips, please feel free to leave a comment down below. Thanks for reading and as always, catch you guys next time.
